Reliable, fast and easy – IFA diagnostics in rheumatology

Indirect immunofluorescence assays (IFAs) such as for anti-nuclear antibody (ANA) testing are an important diagnostic tool in rheumatology. However, manual processing and evaluation of IFAs requires trained professionals and a lot of time. With innovative solutions and modern technologies, EUROIMMUN makes an important contribution to continuous development in immunofluorescence diagnostics and thus increases reliability, efficiency and standardisation.

Covering all bases – our portfolio for rheumatology

Diagnostics of the different autoimmune-related rheumatic diseases pose a particular challenge to rheumatologists: They are confronted with at least 400 inflammatory joint, connective tissue or vascular diseases, which include subgroups sometimes requiring different treatments, and cause a great variety of symptoms. In addition to symptoms, specific antibodies are characterising features. But while there is great number of different antibodies, the prevalence is very low for some of them, making detection very challenging. However, for differential diagnostics in particular, autoantibody detection can give crucial hints and thus enable a fast therapy start for patients.

A life-saving diagnosis thanks to comprehensive antibody testing – a motivating success story

In our latest video, Mr Mende tells us how autoantibody determination completely changed his prognosis. For the past six years, Mr Mende has suffered from necrotising myositis, an autoimmune disease that mainly affects the connective tissue and muscles. Today he is treated with immunosuppressants and is doing well, but receiving this diagnosis and successful therapy did not come easy.

The perfect match for routine laboratories of all sizes

EUROIMMUN has been building expertise in immunofluorescence diagnostics since the 1980s. The indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) serves as an essential screening method for detecting many types of autoantibodies. It offers a broad antigen spectrum due to the use of cells and tissues as antigenic substrates. Thanks to our in-house research and development as well as own production facilities, we are able to design optimal solutions to meet our customers’ needs.
